Terms of Service

1. Using TrueSpec

By creating an account, getting a report or buying credits, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use TrueSpec. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, and able to enter a binding agreement. If you use TrueSpec for a business, you agree to these terms for it.

2. What a report is

Reports show the vehicle specifications (including the Supercharging code) that Tesla recorded when the car was sold, and Tesla's latest battery health estimate, as returned by Tesla's Fleet API on the date shown. Tesla's records can be incomplete, out of date, or change at any time, and we don't guarantee that any report is accurate or complete. A report isn't a vehicle inspection or a guarantee of any entitlement. Confirm Supercharging status and features with Tesla before you buy a car.

TrueSpec is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. “Tesla” and related marks belong to their owner.

3. Accounts

One person per account. Keep your password private; you're responsible for what happens on your account. Creating multiple accounts to get around limits or offers isn't allowed.

4. Credits and pricing

Reports are paid for with credits, one kind for everything. One credit opens the report for one VIN, or pays for an owner-verified report beyond the free one (section 6). Re-opening a report you bought is free for 30 days, and pressing Refresh to get Tesla's latest record uses another credit. Credits are sold in the packs, and at the prices, shown on the pricing page at the time of purchase (from $0.50 for one). Credits don't expire and have no cash value. If Tesla can't return a record for a VIN, no credit is used.

Automated, scripted or bulk checking isn't allowed, and we may slow down or pause checks to protect the service.

5. No resale or sharing

Accounts, credits and reports are for your own personal use. You may not resell, redistribute, publish or sublicense reports; run checks on behalf of paying third parties; or share or sell access to your account. The one exception is an owner-verified report of your own car, which is made to be shared with buyers (section 6).

If we detect or reasonably suspect resale or commercial redistribution, we may suspend or permanently close the account immediately and without notice, and any unused credits won't be refunded.

The SC01 Marketplace is for your own car search. Don't copy, scrape, republish or share the list, or the access your pass gives you.

Reports you make about a listing (that it's sold, gone or wrong) are logged with your account, and every one is checked by hand before anything changes. Knowingly false reports will get your account banned, without refund.

6. Owner-verified reports (Check my car)

You may sign in with Tesla only to an account you're entitled to use, and create reports only for cars on that account. Sign-in happens on Tesla's site; we never see your Tesla password. You approve read-only access to your cars' data and charging history. We don't read your car's location and don't send it commands, except waking it when you ask us to read its odometer and battery. We keep this access, encrypted, only until your report is built (at most 8 hours), and you can disconnect it at any time here or in your Tesla account.

Owner-verified reports are free: one per account per day (the day resets at midnight Eastern time). A new report for a car you verified in the last 30 days, or more than one report in a day, uses a credit. Opening a report you already have is always free. If we can't build a report, you can try again at no extra charge. The report is a snapshot of Tesla's records on the date shown, not an inspection. We may change or end the free allowance at any time.

You may share the PDF and its verification link with anyone, for example in a sale listing. Anyone with the link can see the sections you chose to share, until you switch the link off. Don't alter the PDF: the verification page always shows the original, and altered copies may lead us to switch the link off.

7. The SC01 Marketplace and buying a car

The SC01 Marketplace lists Model S and X advertised for sale by dealers and private sellers, gathered from third-party listings services and websites, with what we read from each car's Tesla build record. TrueSpec doesn't sell cars and isn't a dealer, broker or agent for any buyer or seller, or a party to any sale. We don't own, inspect, hold or control any car listed, or its advert.

TrueSpec does not endorse, recommend or promote any dealer, seller or vehicle over another, and no one pays to be listed or placed. Where a car appears, and any badge it wears (🦄, New, AP2+ and the like), comes from your own settings and our data — it isn't a recommendation. We don't vet dealers or sellers, or their inventory: we don't check their licensing, identity or reputation, or a car's condition, title, liens, history, mileage, price, location or availability.

It is your responsibility to complete all due diligence before you sign a purchase agreement, pay a deposit or otherwise commit to buying — including confirming the car's Supercharging status and features with Tesla, a pre-purchase inspection, a vehicle history report, title and lien checks, and confirming who the seller is.

A listing's details come from its advert and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Some are read off the advert by hand, and say so. A car can sell before we notice, and alerts can be late or miss a car. Supercharging codes are read from Tesla's records on the date checked: Tesla can change or remove free Supercharging, including when a car changes hands, and we can't promise it will transfer to you or continue.

Any dealings between you and a seller — negotiation, payment, financing, delivery, warranty or a dispute — are only between you and them. To the fullest extent the law allows, TrueSpec isn't responsible for, and you release us from, any claim, loss or damage arising from them. Be wary of scams: never send money for a car you haven't confirmed exists and is the seller's to sell.

Adverts and other sites we link to belong to third parties. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or practices.

8. Payments and refunds

Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your card details. All sales are final, except where the law requires otherwise, or at our discretion if a technical problem on our side stopped you from using your credits.

An SC01 Marketplace pass is a one-off payment that doesn't renew. It gives access for the days bought, counted from when you buy it, or from the end of any access you already have. While the pass you bought most recently is still running, you can upgrade it to a longer one by paying the difference in price; the extra days go on the end of your access. A pass buys access to the list, not any car on it (section 7): a car selling, or turning out not to be as advertised, isn't grounds for a refund.

If Tesla changes or withdraws access. TrueSpec depends on Tesla's Fleet API. If Tesla changes, restricts or ends that access so that we can no longer provide reports, we'll refund the credits left on your account at the price you paid for them. Where you bought credits at different prices, we refund using the price per credit of your most recent purchases first. Credits we gave you free, and free owner-verified reports, have no cash value and aren't refunded. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Stripe.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

TrueSpec, its reports, build sheets, listings, alerts and everything else on it are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and that the service will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing on TrueSpec is legal, financial or mechanical advice.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, TrueSpec and the people behind it aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, savings, data or opportunity — and in particular for any loss connected with buying, selling, financing, repairing or relying on information about a vehicle, or with what a dealer or seller does or doesn't do, even if we were told such a loss was possible.

Our total liability for any claim connected with TrueSpec is limited to the amount you paid us in the 30 days before the claim. Some places don't allow some of these limits; where that's so, they apply as far as the law there allows.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold TrueSpec harmless from any claim, loss or cost (including reasonable lawyers' fees) arising from your use of the service, your breach of these terms, or your dealings with any dealer, seller or other third party.

12. Changes and suspension

We may change these terms, prices or the service. Changes apply from when they're posted here and don't affect credits or passes already bought; using TrueSpec after a change means you accept it. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

13. General

These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and TrueSpec about the service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn't a waiver of it. You can't transfer your account or these terms to anyone else; we may transfer them to whoever takes over the service.
